Gastropoda Stoneware with Glaze 6” x 5.5” x 4.5” 2020 Gastropoda is inspired by the snails that would eat the pumpkins on my front porch in the fall. The shape of the vase not only mimics the roundness of the shell, but also reminds me of my own experience with these species. I chose a celadon glaze for the vase in contrast with the iron-layered glazing of the snail to highlight attachment while also keeping a neutral color palette. Symbiosis is a visual commentary on the relationship between self and environment. The vessels act as a manmade element while each of the attached ornaments, inspired by local species, compliment the shape and movement of each piece.
