Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is the primary cause of canine pyoderma (skin infection). The vast majority of S. pseudintermedius are resistant to all antimicrobials available to veterinarians. Accordingly, there is a need for alternative approaches to control staphylococcal infections, such as vaccines. Development of vaccines to control staphylococcal infections is a high priority, however there are no licensed S. pseudintermedius vaccines.
