New building incorporating traditional design elements

Many reconstructed buildings following the 2015 earthquake, particularly in the core areas of the Kathmandu Valley, have incorporated traditional building design such as artistic doors and windows for aesthetic and cultural reasons. The research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, included Jeevan Baniya, Bina Limbu, Prakash Chandra Subedi, and Manoj Suji, who worked in partnership with Nabin Rawal of the Central Department of Anthropology, Tribhuvan University. The photographic collection was curated by Khem Shreesh of Social Science Baha in collaboration with Emily Homolka of UBC’s School of Information, with additional support from Emily Amburgey and Jonathan Eaton of UBC’s Department of Anthropology.
