In this paper Cuk converter feeding brushless DC motor (BLDC) is used for speed control and power factor correction (PFC)and this drive act as a cost-effective solution for low power applications. Cuk converter is made to work in discontinuous conduction mode for achieving the unity power factor at AC mains. The Simulink model of the proposed system is developed in MATLAB/Simulink environment and the proposed drive is developed to validate its performance over a wide range of speed with unity power factor at AC mains
