Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are used in number of applications such as in offices, homes and in factories. For the fact that it enjoys so many applications to different areas gave rise to the quest to look into the overall performance of this motor type. This work models and simulates a four- pole, three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor. First, the classical model was modeled and simulated through the use of MATLAB software. Thereafter, a load of 6Nm was added after 0.5s and the responses on the machine were observed. The results of these tested models showed that PMSM performance is better than that of motor drives that do not make use of permanent magnets
