Larger water reservoirs are used for frequent purposes, such as for irrigation, flood-control, water navigation and other flow parameter aims. Reservoirs may include natural water bodies such as rivers, lakes or man-made structures such as dams and weirs. Reservoir operation is often completed for contrary purposes. Due to large quantity of variables involved, the solution of the problem becomes difficult. The system dynamics is non-linear, the stochastic behaviour of forthcoming inflows, and further uncertainties involved in the system makes the operational policy complex.
