This paper looks over the fictional production of the Spanish author Miguel de Unamuno, emphasizing on the scrutiny of the madness and death phenomena of his play “El otro ”“ Misterio en tres jornadas y un epílogo” (1932). Resuming Unamuno’s writing in prose, which is relevant to build his poetics, like “Niebla” (Mist) and “Vida de Don Quixote y Sancho” (Our Lord Don Quixote), both from 1914, we can verify his insertion on the literary tradition that the mexican writer Carlos Fuentes named as “La Mancha tradition” ”“ which was established by Miguel de Cervantes (with “Don Quixote”) and followed on the 19th century by Machado de Assis.
