The group adopted the recently written high - level goal, objectives and principles of the department for Aboriginal health within which the training programme would operate (see Appendix 1). A more specific aim of the training programme was formulated:-"The Aboriginal Health Worker Training Programme aims to give health workers the skills to deal with the health needs of their communities, enabling community control of health services. This aim will be met by the provision of training programmes for Aboriginal Health Workers, nursing sisters, district medical officers and other health personnel involved in Aboriginal health.
