Group of people standing around Armstrong Whitworth AW15 G-ABTL 'Astraea' following its arrival at Darwin following an inaugural flight from Croydon Aerodrome to trial the type for possible service on the England-Australia mail link via Imperial Airways to Singapore and Qantas (pending a successful tender) for the Singapore-Australia link. The flight confirmed only that the airliner was built for European services and its range limitations precluded a viable opportunity on the Australian service. The aircraft was flown by Capt. A. R. Prendergast whilst H. G. Brackley, Superintendent of Imperial Airways was conducting the route survey.Taylor, Anne J.Date:193
