She began as a teaching assistant at Kormilda College and rose to become Principal of St Francis Xavier School at Nauiyu, Daly River in 1993. She is committed to ensuring Aboriginal people have the opportunity to become teachers and to run their own schools. As a result she helped establish the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (known as FEPPI). This group was actively involved in the establishment and continuance of several outstation schools under the umbrella of the Daly River School.
