26A member of the Fifth Contingent departed Darwin on 16 August 1915 on the 'Eastern'.Pitt's unit embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT A50 'Itonus' on 30 December 1915. Wounded in action 5 August 1916 and 20 September 1917. Military Medal awarded 2 May 1918. "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Albert on 5th April, while in charge of the company lewis guns. L/Cpl. Pitt was tireless in his energy to keep the guns in action and supplied ammunition, carrying his work in the open with total disregard of the heavy artillery and machine gun barrage.
