He also had a sister, Maria. At birth he was registered as Guillermo Gah, 2 December 1892, the son of Mary Anne Bunion (sic) Byunyan and Carlos Gah.Garr was a member of the Fifth Contingent which departed Darwin on 16 August 1915 on board the 'Eastern'. His unit embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT A69 'Warilda' on 5 October 1915. On 29 Feb 1916, Garr was transferred to the 49th Battalion and on 16 March 1916, he was transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion.
