BACKGROUND: The purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to identify if a fascia iliaca block reduces postoperative pain and narcotic consumption and improves early functional outcomes in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed through the mini-posterior approach. METHODS: Patients were recruited from September 2017 to September 2019. Eligible patients received a primary THA using a mini-posterior approach with epidural anesthesia. Postoperatively, patients were randomized to receive a fascia iliaca compartment block or a placebo block.
