A Study on Soothaga Vayu

The results obtained from the studies are summarized below: ❖ High incidence of cases was noted in the age group 21-25 years (60%) from upper middle socio economic group (50%) in their vatha kaalam (90%). ❖ 90% of patients are Non vegetarian with 55% of patients with normal physical built. ❖ Majority of patients belong to thinai and in Muthuvenil kaalam (55%). ❖ In observing the Mukkutram, Abana vayu and sathaga pitham were affected in all patients indicating derangement of vatham and pitham. ❖ In Ezhu udal thathukkal, Saaram and Suronitham are affected in all patients. ❖ In Envagai thervugal Naa, Niram and Malam were affected in majority of patients. ❖ Most of patients had pitha vatha naadi. ❖ In soothaga vayu all patients had irregular menstruation, 80% had Oligomenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea, and 55% patients had constipation. ❖ The trial medicines having kaippu and karppu taste neutralizes the deranged vayu and pitham. ❖ The ingredients of the trial drugs have Emmenagogue, Anti vatha, anti Spasmodic, Carminative, Anti tumours, hypolipidimic and Anti diabetic action. ❖ The pre clinical studies show that the medicines were safe with significant Oestrogenic activity. ❖ The microbial activity shows kalingathi kuzhi thylam were highly sensitive to bacteria and fungus. ❖ The clinical trial shows that there is significant improvement in the clinical manifestations of Soothaga vayu. ❖ There is 100% relief from amenorrhoea, oligomenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea constipation and 90% relief from irregular menstruation. ❖ 5% of patients conceived during the course of the treatment. ❖ The hormonal study taken before and after treatment reveals that in 65% of patients the hormonal imbalance from normal FSH and LH ratio. ❖ The pre clinical and clinical data’s were analysed statistically and observed that they are significant in relieving the symptoms. ❖ Also the trial drugs are affordable to all the patients. CONCLUTION: SOOTHAGA VAYU is primarily due to the derangement of vatham and pitham. ❖ The trial medicines Kalingathi kuzhi thylam and soothagavayu legiyam predominating with kaippu and karppu taste respectively neutralizes the vatham and pitham. ❖ From the pre clinical- pharmacological studies it is evident that the trial medicines were significant Oestrogenic activity. ❖ Prolonged duration, the kalingathi kuzhi thylam elicited mild signs of toxicity in rats but it not prodice any toxicity in clinical trial while 3 to 9 dose of duration. ❖ The trial medicines reduce the risk for obesity. ❖ The trial medicines regularise the irregular menstruation, induces the ovulation and regulate hormonal imbalance. Therefore the trial medicines are beneficial in treating infertility due to anovulation. ❖ Since the ingredients of the trial medicines have Anti diabetic and hypolipidemic properties, so the trial medicines could prevent the complications of PCOD. ❖ No contra indications were reported during the course of the treatment. ❖ The trial medicines gave maximum relief from the symptoms of Soothaga vayu. ❖ Therefore I conclude that there is best solution for Soothaga vayu in siddha system with affordable siddha drugs
