A Study on Azhal Keel Vayu

The aim of the study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Seena linga chenduram (internal medicine) and Aeranda thylum (external medicine) in Azhal keel vayu. ❖ The Protocol has been approved by Institutional animal ethical committee and Institutional ethical committee. ❖ The raw drugs were authenticated by department of medicinal botany, National Institute of Siddha. ❖ Toxicity studies were done in the pharmacological laboratory of National Institute of Siddha. ❖ Biochemical analysis (Qualitative analysis) was done in the Biochemistry lab of NIS and Quantitative analysis was done in IIT. ❖ For the clinical study, 40 cases were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Out of this 30 cases were treated in OPD and 10 cases were treated in IPD of Ayothidoss pandithar hospital of NIS, Chennai. ❖ A day before starting the treatment purgative medicine Agasthiyar kuzhambu 130 mg was given with ginger juice to correct the elevated mukkutrams. ❖ The clinical trial was conducted in 40 patients of Azhal keel vayu with the trial drug Seena linga chenduram (internal medicine) at the dose of 130 mg twice a day with adjuvant of honey and Aeranda thylum (external medicine) for external application. ❖ As per siddha literature, the ingredients of the trail drug possess Anti vatha property. Blood Investigations were carried out before and after treatment and data were recorded in the proforma. ❖ Radiological investigation (X ray knee joint- AP & LAT VIEW) was also done before and after treatment. ❖ Statistical analysis : There is significant difference between pain assessment scale of before and after treatment ( P <0.001). ❖ Observation of both clinical and laboratory parameters before and after treatment ensures the efficacy of the trial drug ❖ The study Results showed that 60 % had good improvement 22.5 % had moderate improvement 17.5 % had mild improvement. CONCLUSION: Toxicity study reveals that the trial drug is safe in long term toxicitiy even in higher dosage of 46.8 mg/ animal in albino rats as per WHO guideliness 1993. ❖ Clinical results showed to be Good improvement in 60% of cases, moderate improvement in 22.5% cases and mild improvement in 17.5% of cases. ❖ There is significant difference between pain assessment scale of before and after treatment (P
