Concentration in the command over capital: Financialization and the transformation of companies´ ownership structures

Wie das Eigentum an und die Verfügungsgewalt über große Unternehmen organisiert ist, ist von hoher gesellschaftspolitischer Bedeutung. Der Beitrag untersucht unter Rückgriff auf ein auf Marx´ Konzept des fiktiven Kapitals aufbauendendes Verständnis von Finanzialisierung die seit den 1980er Jahren zu beobachtende massive Konzentrationsdynamik in der Verfügungsgewalt über Aktienvermögen mit Fokus auf die USA und die BRD. Insbesondere der Blick auf die konkreten Investitionsstrategien und Finanzinstrumente, den Aufstieg des passiven Investments im Nachgang der globalen Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise legt dabei eine Verschiebung im Kommando über Aktienkapital auf eine kleine Gruppe institutioneller Investoren frei: die Indexfondsanbieter.How ownership of and control over large companies is organized is of high socio-political importance. Following an understanding of financialization as gain in significance of fictious capital and empirically focusing on the U.S. and German economy, the article examines the reorganization of companies´ ownership structures and the related massive concentration in the command over share capital on institutional investors since the 1980s.
