One of the major recommendations of the educational reform movement of the 1980s has been to expand the decision-making capacity of teachers in schools. However, practical application of this recommendation has created problems for teachers and principals. This study examined the experiences of teachers and their principal as they engaged in shared decision making at a newly created urban magnet high school. Specifically, this study focused on the types of dilemmas teachers and the principal encountered as a result of shared decision making.
