Design of diffuser augmented wind turbines

Since the fossil fuels are getting consumed at very fast rate, demand for sustainable energy resource to fulfill the energy requirement is needed. Wind energy is one of the most reliable sources of renewable energy. Wind turbine is a device which converts wind energy into electrical energy. Two wind turbines include, horizontal axis wind turbine and vertical axis wind turbine. They ranged from small wind turbines, used as battery charging for boats or traffic lights, to large size wind turbines, used to generate electricity for commercial purposes. Diffuser augmented wind turbines are special horizontal axis wind turbines modified with a cone-shaped wind diffuser to increase the efficiency of converting wind power to electrical power. This thesis report aimed at designing a shroud around the bare wind turbine to increase the power efficiency output. Several shroud shapes were designed and investigated in this thesis.
