What then is plainsong, or so-called Gregorian chant? In a treatise of this type let it suffice to state but a few of its fundamental principles. Needless to say, it is of the utmost importance that one have at least a general conception of what constitutes this music in order to properly evaluate its influence on the Lutheran chorale. The greater such knowledge of plainsong, the greater also will be one\u27s appreciation of Luther\u27s work in this respect
