Under the Weather: Causes and Effects of Climate Change

In modern times, climate change has become an increasingly prevalent issue and various movements and organizations across the globe have been fighting to preserve the environment. Some try to reduce plastic waste in the oceans, save endangered species, and boycott the use of non-renewable resources. But perhaps most abundant of all are those that try to reduce our negative impact on the atmosphere, whether that be by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, reversing ozone depletion, or simply raising awareness. In order to determine if environmental activism truly has an impact on air pollution, we decided to compare the annual mortality rates attributed to air pollution between the years 1990 and 2020. One side effect of air pollution is a variation in cloud development and rainfall patterns. This poses a problem to the people because we found that areas that received large amounts of precipitation tended to have much happier residents than areas with lower amounts of precipitation. Though we did find that death rates attributed to air pollution have significantly decreased, the issue of air pollution still remains and continues to hinder the formation of rain clouds.
