Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. This statistic is unacceptable given the preventable nature of CRC through effective, timely, and adherent screening. The armamentarium of CRC screening tests continues to evolve, lending both an opportunity and a challenge. Medical societies offer varying guidelines regarding optimal screening tests. This article provides a comprehensive review of available and emerging CRC screening tests and describes the evolution of CRC to appreciate the impact on screening choice selection.
