The all-species living tree project

[eng] The present thesis manuscript covers the following contents. (I) The creation of a type straindirected taxonomic tool based on a collection of reliable sets of prokaryotic rRNA sequences, universal alignments and trustworthy tree topologies, that are regularly updated and can be downloaded by the scientific community. (II) The challenge of achieving for the first time the complete catalogue of SSU sequences with all the hitherto classified species, consisting on the sequencing of more than 500 species that still remain missing. (III) Investigate, with the use of the database, fundamental aspects about taxonomy of prokaryotes such as: phylogenetic thresholds in new taxa circumscriptions, coherence of current taxonomy by means of phylogenetic schemas and relevance of the 16S rRNA gene in taxonomic studies.[spa] La presente tesis doctoral abarca los siguientes contenidos. (I) La creación de una heramienta taxonómica de cepas tipo de bacterias y arqueas basada en una colección depurada de secuencias de ARNr procariótico, alineamientos universales y árboles filogenéticos, que serán actualizados regularmente y podrán ser descargados por la comunidad científica. (II) El reto de conseguir por primera vez el catálogo completo de secuenicas de SSU con todas las especies clasificadas hasta el momento, consistente en la secuenciación de más de 500 especies que aún permanecen sin secuenciar. (III) La investigación, mediante el uso de la base de datos, de aspectos fundamentales sobre taxonomía de procariotas tales como: umbrales filogenéticos, coherencia de la taxonomía actual mediante esquemas filogenéticos y la relevancia del ARNr 16S en estudios taxonómicos
