High blood pressure, diabetes mellitus type 2 and cancer are important chronic diseases, which have a high demand in the use of alternative treatments. The objective of this study was to analyze the traditional knowledge of complementary alternative medicine for chronic diseases in communities at southern Oaxaca, Mexico. For this purpose, 65 traditional doctors were interviewed selectively and using the ethnographic method in 2016. We found 52 species to control diabetes mellitus type 2, 49 to regulate arterial hypertension and 37 as a treatment for cancer.
