Aerodynamic and structural design of a front wing

Disseny aerodinàmic i estructural de l'alerò davanter pel monoplaça de Formula StudentThis project tackles, from scratch, the design of a front wing for a Formula Student car, from both the aerodynamic and structural approach. First, targets are stated and requirements regarding safety, manufacturing and cost are gathered. Also, a research on front wing aerodynamics is presented. The proposed method for the aerodynamic development includes: panel method analysis for airfoil selection and RANS simulations for both crosssection configuration and three-dimensional studies, to account for the interactions with other aerodynamic devices. The structural approach includes: selection of appropriate materials, rough calculations for anchoring points, presentation of the full structural CAD and further computational verification. For each of the main design stages, a discussion on the results is provided.
