In this thesis, content distribution networks (CDN) will be studied and their function will be approximated. The first chapter will introduce and define the concept of content distribution networks. In the second chapter we will look at some general concepts of the internet and a general description of the concept of content. In the third chapter there will be an extensive presentation of the basic techniques and their operation, as well as an overview of the most important networks. The fourth chapter explains in more detail the operation and the architecture of AKAMAI's network. The fifth chapter explores the NETFLIX case that is one of the most well-known providers.
