Comprendre les facteurs sociaux et environnementaux de la distribution et des mouvements de la mégafaune marine est essentiel à sa conservation. Les cétacés sont des espèces rares et mobiles, dont la gestion nécessite une meilleure compréhension des habitats qu’ils occupent. Cette thèse a eu pour but d’étudier l’écologie spatiale d’une population en danger de baleines à bosse (Megaptera novaeangliae) dans l’océan Pacifique Sud.
