Questions of authorship in the production of contemporary photographic art are explored in this chapter. Beginning with a survey of theoretical positions underpinning debates about the artist photographer as author, the chapter is formed from discussions among a diverse range of contemporary artists; photographers and writers, re-introducing previously absent perspectives from the debates. The discussions reveal authorship as an increasingly complex feature of photography as an artistic medium and emergent technology. In conclusion, it is argued that authorship in contemporary photographic art is most usefully considered beyond theoretical debates alone and through different perspectives involved in creative practices
