Temporal trend of syphilis incidence rate in pregnant women in brazil from 2009 to 2017

Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of the incidence rate of Syphilis in pregnant women in Brazil between 2009 and 2017. Method: Time series ecological study from a secondary database with information from the Notifiable Diseases Information System, which resulted in 208,216 pregnant women with syphilis. Infection incidence rates per 1000 live births (general, according to age group, according to region and according to region by age group) were calculated. The time trend was estimated using the simple linear regression method; p <0.05. Results: There was an increase in the general incidence rate of syphilis in pregnant women aged between 15 and 39 years (p <0.001). The rates showed an increasing behavior in all age groups (p <0.001) and in all regions during this period (p <0.001), with the age group with the greatest growth being from 15 to 19 years old (β = 2.971; p < 0.001) and the South and Southeast regions (β = 2.405; p <0.001 and β = 2.154; p <0.001, respectively). Conclusion: syphilis in pregnant women is rising in Brazil as well as in all regions and age groups analyzed. Thus, it is recommended to develop more comprehensive and egalitarian public strategies in order to reduce the epidemic and control the morbidity resulting from gestational syphilis.Objetivo: Analisar a tendência temporal da incidência da sífilis gestacional (SG), no Brasil, entre 2009 e 2017.
