Temporal trend of lung cancer mortality in the state of Santa Catarina from 1996 to 2016

Lung cancer has a significant worldwide incidence and is highly lethal. This study aimed to analyze the trend of lung cancer mortality in Santa Catarina from 1996 to 2016. Ecological study of time series. Data obtained from the mortality information system of the Informatics Department of the SUS. Including hospital deaths registered by ICD 10-C34. Statistical analysis was performed by simple linear regression, p <0.05. Upward trend found in overall death rate, average rate 47.94 cases / 100,000 inhabitants and 42% increase when comparing the first and last year (p<0.001). Female gender with increasing tendency in all age groups (β= 0.838; p<0.001), average rate 26.45 cases / 100,000 inhabitants, 93.70% increase when comparing the first and last year. Male gender in stability, average rate 71.01%, variation 26.13% when comparing the first and last year. In the age groups between 40 and 49 years (β = -0.341; p<0.001) and 50 to 59 years (β= -0.518; p= 0.017), reduction in mortality rates. In macroregions, increased mortality in Greater Florianópolis (β = 0.732; p<0.001), Northeast (β= 0.438; p= 0.016) and South (β= 873; p<0.001), the other regions showed stability.
