Metformin is a commonly used drug to treat Type 2 diabetic patients. As the number of diabetic patients globally has increased from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014, it can be seen that diabetes is a common form of illness and in Singapore, there is about 1 in 10 people suffering from diabetes (Lai, 2015).
