Las hormigas representan uno de los grupos de insectos sociales más importantes en los ecosistemas; su diversidad de hábitos, formas, así como su abundancia se ve favorecido por las condiciones climáticas propias del neo-trópico. A pesar de esto, en algunas zonas del país no se conoce la biodiversidad e importancia de estos insectos, por lo cual este trabajo se constituye en un aporte al estudio de la mirmecofauna de la zona cafetera.
