National audienceThe volatility of world prices has weakened the Algerian dairy policy, raising questions about the public policy in the sector regulation. Despite the liberalization of the processing and delivery of most dairy products, the government carries on public intervention along the market chain with direct subsidies and premium so as to fix the price of pasteurized reconstituted milk from powder, basic food of the majority of the fast growing population. An assessment of the new dairy policy is reported. We present the organization and application of this policy, as well as the input-output balance and the main constraints of the industry.
