The decision support tool, ForestGALES, which incorporates such a mechanistic model, was then chosen to include Maritime pine growing in the silviculture conditions of the Landes de Gascogne region, SW France. To adjust the species dependent relationships for Maritime pine, winching tests were used to determine the mechanical resistance of root anchorage to podzolic soil conditions and wind exposure.
