National audienceThe function of soil structure before ploughing with regard to mechanical processes during ploughing has been studied. The experiment was carried out in a clay loam soil with friable behaviour. The evolution of 3 different structures before ploughing was compared. The compatibility of soil volumes characterized before and after ploughing was analyzed. Soil structure was characterized by measurement of the area and the greater length of different types of clods (compacted, compacted with cracks, porous), the area of fine earth and macroscopic voids (diameter > 1 cm) on a map of the ploughed layer profile.
