International audienceAbstract Use and learning of the words in chemistry: difficulties, ambiguities, obstacles Some frequent difficulties in chemistry learning which are linked to the wordings and can be found in textbooks are reviewed here. They show that the distinction between emergent properties of matter and properties of submicroscopic entities and that between models and experimental situations are of prime importance in chemistry teaching.
