Analyse de la diversité de l’élevage dans les territoires : application en Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Interest for diversity has recently risen as it offers opportunity to cope with climatic hazard and market fluctuation. In France, the political agenda (i.e., the agroecological transition) also puts the emphasis on diversified agricultural systems, but technical references are lacking. In the Auvergne-Rhône- Alpes region, 39% from the 28 291 farms allowing ruminant production are diversified: beef and dairy cattle, mixed cattle-sheep, crop and livestock. Some farms present also some forms of products diversification beyond the dominant products such as weanlings, milk and lambs. Our methodological approach allows analyzing and mapping these various forms of livestock diversification in territories, which is needed for assessing the opportunities and limits provided by diversity for sustainable livestock development.Malgré la dynamique de spécialisation agricole des 50 dernières années, l’élevage comporte une forte diversité de systèmes et de production dans les territoires. Celle-ci offre des opportunités pour faire face aux aléas climatiques et à la fragilisation économique des élevages. La transition agroécologique de l’agriculture inscrite dans la Loi d’avenir de 2014 amène à reconsidérer cette diversité, que nous analysons ici à l’aide de la typologie Inosys. En Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 39% des 28 291 exploitations d’élevages d’herbivores -avec ou sans polyculture -présentent plusieurs ateliers– animaux et cultures, lait et viande, bovin et ovin. De plus, des exploitations présentent une diversité de produits au-delà des produits dominants que sont les broutards, lait et agneaux. Une analyse spatialisée permet de cartographier ses différentes formes de diversification intra et inter exploitations. Ceci est un préalable nécessaire à l’analyse des atouts et limites de la diversité de l’élevage
