National audienceIn mammals, metabolic adaptations are required to overcome nutritional deprivation in amino-acids/proteins as well as episodes of malnutrition. GCN2 protein kinase, which phosphorylates the α subunit of the translation initiation factor eIF2, is a sensor of amino acid(s) deficiencies. On one hand, this review briefly describes the main features of amino acid metabolism.
