Caption: "Oklahoma began shedding its coat of ice Saturday afternoon as tempatures pushed above the freezing mark in some areas, but new freezing rain and sleet made roads dangerous to travel. General condition of the roads over the state was good, but the Oklahoma Highway Patrol warned that low places and bridges in country areas were glazed and driving was dangerous. Heavy icing Saturday morning brought numerous accidents with several minor injuries. One person died as a result of the cold, over 1,100 telephones were knocked out in the northeastern portion of the state and ice collapsed an Oklahoma City airport hangar roof damaging 15 planes. Drizzle Continues A group of Oklahoma City speech student on their way home after a speech tournament at Alva were halted at Enid by icy roads. Tempatures over the state stayed in a 17-degree range from top to bottom. Warmest was Ardmore with 34, while Guymon's low of 17 took the honors for frostiest reading. Oklahoma' City's high of 30 and low of 23 were just about at the middle of the range. Only four points in the state beside Ardmore reported temperatures of freezing or above. The mercury reached scored 33 at McAlester while Ada, Tulsa and Gutmon all reported highs of 32. McAlester reported light snow early Saturday, but other reporting points said precipitation had halted for awhile at least. Glaze Spreads East Earlier Saturday, drizzle and light rain had fallen on southeastern Oklahoma while the rest of the state dug out from under Friday's night sleet. The weather bureau issued another glaze warn for the eastern section, Only portion not struck by the ice storm was the Oklahoma Panhandle which was dru and clear.
