The Thor was flown here in two sections from California, will be officially turned over to the airforce Thursday morning. Featuring a giant Thor missile on the outside and an airforce "man in space" display on the inside, a preview of the Frontiers of the Space Age conference was staged here Wednesday...An airforce crew directed by technicians from the Douglas Aircraft Co., builders of the Thor raised the gleaming white, 73-foot intermediate range missle into an erect position in front of the auditorium in just under three hours Wednesday morning....The C-124 Globemaster carrying the nose cone and accessories was late arriving from Santa Monica, Calif., because of mechincal trouble. The Thor will be officilly handed over to the airforce by Donald Douglas jr., president by the aircraft company, at 8:30 a.m. Thursday as a prelude to the conference. Maj. Gen. Bernard A. Schriever, commander of the airforce ballistic missile divison, will accept for the airforce. This is the first public showing of the Thor.
