(O-1-7-62) State Industry got one of its biggest shots inyears at the start of the 1960s when work got under way on what is now this industrial behemoth at 6655 W Reno. The vast expanse of Western Electric's plant can be realized by this comparison: the 500x96-foot, 3-story administration building (inset) is almost dwarfed (at right in large photo) by the 1,480x680-foot factory building. The $35-million complex already is being expanded by a $3-million addition that will add another 300 workers, bringing nearer the anticipated staff of more than 4,000.
