House Speaker Sam Rayburn was buried in a country cemetry Saturday after a simple funeral attended by the mightest men in the nation and his hometown friends and neighbors. President Kennedy, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, former Preident Eisenhower and Truman and scores of senators and representatives put aside political rivalries to pay last respects to "Mr. Democrat." The few remaining members of the once-large Rayburn family were joined at the rites by townspeople who had known him all their lives. The funeral in the First Baptist House of Bonham in the rolling plains of northeast Texas lasted 30 minutes. The heavy bronze coffin. colored gummetal gray and trimmed with chrome, was carried down a dirt road to Willow Wild Cemetery under a gray and dismal sky.......A crowd estimated by the Texas department of public safety at 15,000 filled the streets around the church to watch in silence as "Mr. Sam" started his last trip through the town he loved. In the grassy 25-acre Willow Wild Cemetry, the coffin was slowly lowered into a grave dug next to that of his sister Lucinda (Miss Lu), who was closet to him of all his 10 brothers and sisters. She died of cancer in 1956. A simpkle $140 headstone will mark the grave of the man who served longer as congressman and as house speaker than any other man in history. It will say "Sam Taliaferro Rayburn, Jan. 6, 1882-Nov. 16, 1961.
