Caption: "Oklahoma City filed conennation proccedings against some 21 property owners along S May Friday in a move to obtain necessay right-of-way for the widening of May from the Canadian river bridge south to SW 15. The proposed project would slice the front of several businesses along an eight-block stretch which includes a member of a car salvage yards, second-hand stores, a couple of gas stations, small grocery stores and a barber shop. Value of the land has been appraised at $77,607. It includes a strip 17 feet wide running along the west side of May Ave., where giant piles of wrecked cars, second-hand furniture and other materials have been collecting for years. The widening project, being proposed jointly by the county and the state, could set the stage for a vast land-clearing movement which would at least push the assorted collection of small business ventures back away from the projected four-lane avenue. (The fronts of these business buildings may be sliced off by the proposed widening of S May.)
