(O-3-29-69)In what proved to be his farwell address, Dwight D. Eisenhower warned Americans against international communism, which he described as "an expansionist tyranny." His Aug. 5 speech to the Republican National Convention at Miami Beach, made from his hospital room in Washington, also urged a quest for lasting solutions to the major domestic problems of a rising crime rate, embittered race relations and violence in cities. Eisenhower declared that communism :respects only toughness and strength and still displays little interest in traveling the pathways to peace, with honor and justice."......"Even here in America they covertly labor to deepen citizen discontent, to incite violence, and to rend the fabric of our society. Meantime they continue to expand their military power.
