What apparently was to be a dramatic confrontation ended in polite police disinterest that ruined a plan generated at mid-morning, as some 40 protestors marched at Oklahoma City draft induction headquarters...Later, demonstrators decided that having someone arreseted might be just the thing. They elected Jack Batemon and proceeded to round up bail money and an attorney. But police, including Maj. Wayne Lawson who heads the scoutcar division, said they wouldn't arrest Bateman even if he committed the leaflet offense. Before the group had approached a scoutcar with initation, demonstrator Ann Hawks said, "Wait, Let's call the press over here first. We want the press to hear this. There wasn't much to hear. In a final, forlorn effort to save the plan, demonstrators offered to sign a complaint themselves. Police said no.
