A Big Flant

This is the Ponca City plant of the Continental Oil and Refining Co., one of the largest in the Midcontinent field. In the lower foreground is the general office building, and to the right is the baseball field symbolic of recreational facilities the company makes available to its emplyes. The white streak down the left hand side of the page is the Santa Fe right of way, where there are loading racks galore for the tank cars. On the left hand side of the tracks are stills and refinery apparatus of every conceivable kind. In the left center of the picture are the smokestacks of the power houses, and scattered all through it are buildings that house the varied operating unite incident to oil and gasoline and the byproducts. The big white buttons, of course, are the tanks of the tank farm that holds millions of barrels of crude oil. Invisible in the picture are miles of pipe and tremendous amounts of machinery, labratory and engineering equipment.
