TOTAL PARENTERAL NUTRITION INDUCED WERNICKE’S ENCEPHALOPATHY AFTER ONCOLOGICAL GASTROINTESTINAL SURGERY Carl Wernicke described the disease bearing his name in 1881 and reported three cases characterized by the presence of mental confusion, ataxia, and ophthalmoplegia.
