Food insecurity is an issue that impacts approximately eleven percent of households in the United States (Economic Research Service, 2018). According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) (2008), food insecurity exists when a household has inadequate access to food supply due to social or economic reasons. In addition to access, the availability, utilization and stability of food supply also impact the food security status of a household (FAO, 2008). High school agriculture courses offer a unique opportunity for learners interested in addressing food insecurity at the local level.
