We study the interaction of a spatial soliton waveguide with a voltage defined and electrically tuned interface in nematic liquid crystals, whereby the optic axis is reoriented through the use of patterned electrodes. We investigate refraction and total internal reflection of nematicon wavepackets, disclosing the role of anisotropy and obtaining a remarkable in-plane steering as large as 55°. © 2012 American Institute of Physics
