A "Round-Table Conference" on surface phenomena of thermionicemitters was held on June 10, 1969 in the "Institut für TechnischePhysik" of the Kernforschungsanlage Jülich GmbH. Thismeeting was a sequel to a similar one organized on July 7, 1967by Dr. Devin in Saclay (C.E.A.). This conference gave emphasisto the great importance which in our opinion must be givento the surface properties of thermionic emitters in order toyield high efficiency and long lifetime converters. The internationalinterest in this conference as well as the generalresult of the presentations and the vital discussions whichfollowed, have supported this opinion in every respect.This volume contains those papers for which written presentationswere submitted by the authors
