Pulsed-laser polymerization (PLP) is an experimental procedure originally developed for measuring the propagation rate coefficient (k(p)) in free-radical polymerization. This review describes the practical and theoretical basis for the measurement of k(p) using PLP and traces the development of the technique over the past ten years. The article also covers recent innovations, such as combining PLP with mass spectrometry and using PLP to measure transfer rate coefficients
